The problem with wedding rings is that they are generally bound by very strict rules and regulations that pertain to tradition and custom. This is understandable, as weddings themselves are a very traditional (in some cases , even religiously so) affair, not just in western societies but all over the world. It makes sense, then, that jewellery associated with marriages and wedding ceremonies are also bound by tight constrictions that detail how formal the rings should be, what the rings should be made of, and in some cases even what colours are appropriate. Again, this is all very understandable.
Try explaining that to the modern young couple, however. The youth these days are as liberated as the youth have always been, and will refuse to step in line if they can help it. And why not? They are the ones getting married, after all, and they feel the final power of choice should rest with them; if they feel that a classic pair of gold rings are too dull for their tastes, then whose right is it to tell them what to do? Unfortunately, the rest of the world does not always agree with them, and adventurous young couples approaching the wedding altar can be put under extreme amounts of pressure by family, friends and society in general, particularly when it comes to wedding rings.
There are, however, plenty of alternatives. The key is to make these alternatives SEEM like they are traditional and classic and timeless, when in fact they are on the cutting edge of new fashion. After all, it should be noted that most people over the age of fifty cannot tell the difference.
Incidentally, we happen to agree with the youth on this topic – gold jewellery does seem to be rather backward-thinking and unfashionable. Modern girls in particular feel a strange aversion to yellow gold – they fee it’s ugly, tasteless, and shows an utter lack of creativity. Even most young men these days feel that gold is rather staid and plain, and that it does not reflect the exciting new ideas of a society that is changing with every minute. Gold was for our forefathers; we are the generation of new things, of globalization and exotic metals.
The first metal that suggests itself, of course, is platinum. Brushed platinum rings look quite exquisite; nobody can deny this. Of course, platinum carries a rather hefty price tag. Many jewellers today suggest that there is an even more obvious alternative in sight – the white gold wedding ring. This is actually a very clever suggestion, because white gold is beautiful enough that it can definitely be considered fashionable, and yet it is still “gold”, and thus classic enough to assuage the fears of the older folk. White gold wedding rings are an excellent solution to a problem that is faced by many people.
As for the choice of stone on the ring, diamonds are still a very compatible option. The complementary color of white gold emphasizes the sparkle of a diamond, and a well-set stone can create a dazzling interplay of light, making white gold diamond wedding rings a very attractive option. They also have an almost certainly more sophisticated air than their yellow gold counterparts.
The mens white gold wedding ring has become quite a style statement as well as well, meaning that a couple can actually get matching rings in equally bold style. In fact, mens white gold wedding rings are slowly starting to sell more than their female counterparts, a bold move indeed.
